Western Digital Scorpio 750GB

The big question on my mind at the moment is….

Should I but a Western Digital Scorpio 750GB as an upgrade for my Macbook? ? ?

This massive drive would certainly end my storage woes, and according to the tech specs and reviews, it has great performance whilst remaining quiet.

I don’t know about you, but I am finding my computer filling up with more and more space hogging multimedia files.

Family photo’s and home videos…

An ever growing music collection…

An increasing number of feature films (we no longer have a DVD player, and it’s so easy to connect up the Macbook to the TV that we just watch films using the computer)…

But…

It’s soooooo big, it makes me nervous for some reason.

Plus of course installing a new hard drive can always be a bit nerve racking… Will it work, will I retain all my data and above mentioned multimedia…?

I’m confident that I can do the install fine, and with Time Machine nothing should go wrong!

Hmmm, what do you think ?

Should I get one of these ?

I don’t know about you, but in my house our TV remote has mystical powers.

It can be right there for hours and then suddently… gone !

And almost impossible to find again, it’s gotta be some kind of magic… (or just my kids)

However I don’t seem to have the same problem with my iPhone, it’s never more that a few feet away from me, and if the kids go near it, they know that swift retribution will follow !

So this little device from RedEye looks just the thing to solve my remote control woes!

It simply plugs into the headphone socket on your device, leaving your dock connector open, and then beams out a limitless array of IR commands.

No news on availability in the UK, so if you see it let me know & I’ll do the same for you!

Western Digital My Book 3.0

3 February, 2010 | Daniel | No Comment

Screen shot 2010-02-03 at 17.39.15.pngWestern Digital have released a USB 3.0 version of their popular My Book external hard drive.

The SuperSpeed USB 3.0 transfers data at 4.8 gigabit per second. That’s up to 10 times faster than USB 2.0.

Of course you’ll need a USB 3.0 compatible computer to make the most of all that speed.

However if you’re looking for a new external drive, you can always get a USB 3.0 version as they are backwards compatible. That way you’ll be future-proofed for when you get a new USB 3.0 computer.

These external hard drives are great to use for backing up all your important files, photos and movies.

I own several USB external hard drives, all from Western Digital.

I’ve found them all to be extremely reliable and more than fit for purpose.

Apple Launches iPad at Latest Creation Event

27 January, 2010 | Daniel | No Comment

In todays news…

Apple have released their fabled tablet computer, called (we now know) the iPad

The missing first page of the bible is discovered, stating “The Following Story is Fictional and Does Not Depict Any Actual Person or Event”

The Pope unifies all religions under a humanist banner

All wars are overJohn Lennon and George Harrison are discovered alive and well, having had a nice long relaxing holiday during which they’ve written ten albums worth of new material

The Beatles reform…

All carbon and other greenhouse gases are sucked from the atmosphere by aliens, who also remove all fossil fuels from the planet

We are forced to adopt entirely renewable energy sources, and the future environmental stability of the planet is secured…

Some of this is true, some is not…

The most important question of course is when can I order my iPad in the UK, and how can I justify it to my wife… (all comments and suggestions gratefully received…)

AirStash wireless SD card reader – the perfect accessory

11 January, 2010 | Daniel | No Comment
AirStash wireless SD card reader the perfect accessory Alecks Dad Devon Web Services

This potentially great device has popped up towards the end of CES.

The AirStash is a wireless SD card reader, which is targeted at iPhone OS devices (but does work with other WiFi-enabled devices) and supports up to 32GB SDHC cards.

For wireless connection the AirStash acts as a WiFi 802.11b/g access point and is accessed via a browser

No price, release date or battery life available yet, but this looks like a great idea for all us storage starved iPhone users…
